چکیده

The Western honey bee (Apis mellifera L., Hymenoptera: Apidae) is a species of crucial economic, agricultural and environmental importance. In the last ten years, some regions world have suffered from significant reduction colonies. In fact, losses are not an unusual phenomenon, but in many countries worldwide there has been notable decrease families. cases USA, European countries, Middle East received considerable attention, mostly due to absence easily identifiable cause. It difficult determine main factors leading colony because bees’ diverse social behavior. Moreover, their daily routine, they make contact with agents environment exposed plethora human activities consequences. Nevertheless, number different considered be contributing losses, recent investigations established most important ones, particular, pests diseases, management, including keeping practices breeding, change climatic conditions, practices, use pesticides. global picture highlights ectoparasitic mite Varroa destructor as major factor loss. Last least, microsporidian parasites, mainly Nosema ceranae, also contribute problem. Thus, it obvious that involved globally. Increased monitoring scientific research should throw new light on losses. This review focuses which found impact increase losses.

Endosymbionts and honey bee colony losses?

Honey bees, Apis mellifera, are essential pollinators for the maintenance of natural biodiversity and agriculture [1]. Colony losses witnessed throughout the Northern hemisphere are therefore worrying [2], especially because no single driver has yet emerged as the definitive cause [3]. Interactions between viruses, ectoparasitic mites and microsporidian endoparasites are most likely key factors...

Native bees provide insurance against ongoing honey bee losses.

One of the values of biodiversity is that it may provide 'biological insurance' for services currently rendered by domesticated species or technology. We used crop pollination as a model system, and investigated whether the loss of a domesticated pollinator (the honey bee) could be compensated for by native, wild bee species. We measured pollination provided to watermelon crops at 23 farms in N...

Feromoni Pčela Honey Bee Colony Pheromones

Pheromones are chemicals produced as liquids by specialised cells or glands and transmitted into the environment as liquids or gases. In contrary to hormones, which are excreted in organism and have effect exclusively on organism that produced them, pheromones are excreted outside organism and effect on different individuals of the same species. Pheromones mediate nearly all aspects of honeybee...

Predictive Markers of Honey Bee Colony Collapse

Across the Northern hemisphere, managed honey bee colonies, Apis mellifera, are currently affected by abrupt depopulation during winter and many factors are suspected to be involved, either alone or in combination. Parasites and pathogens are considered as principal actors, in particular the ectoparasitic mite Varroa destructor, associated viruses and the microsporidian Nosema ceranae. Here we ...

Honey Bee-Infecting Plant Virus with Implications on Honey Bee Colony Health

Honey bees are eusocial insects that are commercially managed to provide pollination services for agricultural crops. Recent increased losses of honey bee colonies (averaging 32% annually since 2006) are associated with the incidence and abundance of pathogens. In their study in mBio, J. L. Li et al. [mBio 5(1):e00898-13, 2014, doi:10.1128/mBio.00898-13] share their discovery that a plant virus...
